THE PRESSURE IT’S PUTTING ON YOUNG PEOPLE FOR MATERIAL THINGS IS SCARY! Music star, AKA, says he is thinking of quitting Instagram
South African hip-hop artiste, Kiernan Jarryd Forbes, known by his stage name AKA, says he is thinking of quitting Instagram because of its negative influence on young people.
The 30-year-old “touch my blood” crooner said that the pressure IG is putting on people to thirst for material possessions is scary and celebrities like him are part of the problem without even knowing it.
The award-winning songster with over 1.5 million followers on Instagram opined that the trendy social media platform was created to show off and make one crave for things you don’t actually need.
AKA said there was more to life than subjecting oneself to societal pressures because of “certain” people who flaunt their wealth on IG.
Giving his two cents on his Twitter page, AKA wrote,
“I’m legit thinking of quitting Instagram. The pressure it’s putting on young men and women for material things is scary, and people like me are part of the problem without even knowing it. That thing was created for one purpose, for you to want things you don’t actually need.
“There must be more to life than Instagram.
“You go on Instagram, and it legit sucks you in on every level. You scroll and scroll and scroll and click and click and click, your mind completely devouring everything. Every bag, every holiday, every car, every new product that you are told you NEED in order to feel complete.
“I don’t have all the answers but damn. Mybexplore page is pure poison. Im not trying to judge anyone … I just need some more peace in my life.
“Is it possible to be addicted to Instagram and still be grateful for what you have? …. I don’t think so.”
Meanwhile, many Twitter users also applauded him for his assertions. Some even claimed that had uninstalled the application on their gadgets because many have allowed apps to be responsible for one’s happiness.
Some opined that youths are in trouble because social media has ruined a large ratio.

I used to see my friends go to gym every evenings and post their workout sessions and do the same. I would see some of my cousins living a lavish life abroad and aspire to do the same. Whenever I went on vacations I used to only worry about taking perfect pictures for posting

Instagram made me live up to other people’s dreams and visions and I was quick to realise that’s not my kinda life. I got tired of people’s likes and comments and just stuck to living in the moment and in my world

Just uninstalled mine. No wonder the rate of depression and suicide is so scary, we’ve allowed apps to be responsible for our own happiness.
