Three persons were feared killed on Monday evening when a group of armed robbers attacked a new generation bank in Ijero Ekiti in Ekiti State.

Sources said the robbers gained access to the bank at about 5.30pm after blowing up the security doors with dynamite following which they began sporadic gunshots.

The source said:

“The sound of the dynamite threw the environment into confusion. There were casualties. I think two policemen and one other. I cannot say whether it was as a result of the dynamite or gunshots.

WuzupNaija gathered that initiated their attack on the town’s police station, where they killed two cops before heading to the bank.

They were said to have made away with an unspecified amount of money during the operation which lasted for about an hour.

Police Public Relations Officer in Ekiti State, Mr Caleb Ikechukwu, who spoke from the robbery scene, where he said he had gone to gather reliable information on the incident, confirmed the robbery attack.

Ikechukwu said:

“There were casualties. They succeeded by using dynamite to gain access into the banking hall and the robbery took place around 5:30 pm on Monday.

“There was no casualty on the side of the bank. There were one or two on the side of the police”, he said.
