The Bible does not require a ruler to be Christian – Pastor Poju Oyemade
Pastor Poju Oyemade of Covenant Christian Center has said that the Bible does not require a ruler to align with the Christian faith.
Citing an example, Oyemade said that King Herod in the Bible was a hostile king, but that didn’t hinder God’s work.
The clergyman advised Christians to pray for those in authority regardless of their religious beliefs.
He tweeted:
“There is no where in scripture that God demands that those in authority must be aligned with our own faith and “on the side of God” for Him to fulfil his will through us. Herod was a hostile king when Jesus was born yet God went ahead. Jesus ministered successfully in his era.
“Jesus did not demand the king align his faith with his. The early Church ministered, grew & multiplied in many cases through the hostility of authority just as the Jews multiplied when oppressed in Egypt. What we are asked to do is to pray for those in authority regardless.”
