Thailand reports no new local COVID-19 infection for 30 days
Thailand reports no new local COVID-19 infection for 30 days now.
Thailand’s Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) on Wednesday reported a straight 30 days of zero local COVID-19 transmission.
“No local new COVID-19 case but we have one new case of a Thai returnee from the Philippines already in quarantine,’’ said CCSA spokesman Taweesin Visanuyothin.
According to him, it shows the importance of Thai unity, which has kept the country free of the disease for one month.
The new imported case is a man, aged 31 who worked at a restaurant in the Philippines.
He returned on June 17 and was quarantined in Bangkok.
He tested positive for the disease on Monday but showed no symptoms.
So far 967 Thais have returned from the Philippines. Two of them contracted COVID-19.
The total number of cases is now 3,157, with 3,026 recoveries, including three discharged in the previous 24 hours.
However, the death toll remained unchanged at 58.
Taweesin said the lifting of nearly all restrictions in Thailand is mostly factored from all Thais doing their utmost to contain COVID-19.
The CCSA has confirmed that from July 1, all businesses and activities previously suspended to stem the pandemic will be granted the green light to resume operation, including entertainment venues and massage parlours.
Taweesin, however, did not say whether the state of emergency will be extended or not.
The Emergency Decree is set to expire on June 30.
Meanwhile, the decision to extend or lift the state of emergency lies in Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, the CCSA team, and Cabinet members.
