Nigerian music stars Tems and Rema have made it onto former United States President Barack Obama’s Summer 2024 playlist.

Obama shared his 44-track playlist on X.com, featuring a mix of various genres and artists from around the world.

Tems is featured with her song “Love Me Jeje,” and Rema’s track “Yayo” is also included. Obama’s playlist reflects his diverse musical tastes and showcases some of Nigeria’s finest Afrobeats talent.

On Monday, Obama posted the playlist with the message, “With summer winding down, I wanted to share some songs that I’ve been listening to lately – and it wouldn’t be my playlist if it didn’t include an eclectic mix. I hope you find something new to listen to!”

This year’s playlist includes artists like Shaboozey, Charli XCX, Billie Eilish, and Beyoncé, alongside Nigerian stars Tems and Rema.

Notable songs also include Bob Marley’s “Them Belly Full,” 2Pac’s “How Do U Want It,” and Megan Thee Stallion’s “Wanna Be.”

Tems and Rema’s inclusion follows previous mentions of Nigerian artists in Obama’s playlists, including Wizkid and Tems in 2020, Burna Boy in 2022, and Ayra Starr in 2023.

In an interview with comedian Hasan Minhaj, Obama confirmed that he personally curates his playlists. He said, “I do! Listen. I am so glad that I have this opportunity. People believe the books and the movies, but the playlists, they somehow think — and this is mostly coming from young people like you — somehow, y’all think you invented rock ‘n’ roll. You invented hip-hop.”
