Court adjourns Yahaya Bello’s alleged fraud case to June 13
The Federal High Court in Abuja has postponed the fraud case involving former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, to June 13.
Presiding over the proceedings on Friday, Justice Emeka Nwite emphasized that Bello must appear in court to respond to the fraud allegations brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, totaling 80 billion naira.
In a ruling dated April 23, the court directed the EFCC to serve the former governor with the charges of money laundering through his legal representative.
Justice Nwite upheld the EFCC’s application, asserting that no application should be entertained without the defendant’s presence in court, as stipulated by section 396 (2) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015.
Bello, represented by his counsel, Abdulwahab Mohammed, informed the court that the EFCC had obtained an interim order from the Court of Appeal halting the contempt proceedings initiated by him against the agency at the High Court in Lokoja.
