A fresh leadership dispute has erupted within the Peoples Democratic Party in Taraba State after the newly inaugurated 16-member State Caretaker Committee directed members of the dissolved State Working Committee to vacate the party’s state secretariat.
The directive was disclosed on Thursday evening in a statement issued by the chairman of the caretaker body, Dr. Falack Victor.
Dr. Victor stated that the former SWC members no longer have the authority to occupy the secretariat following their removal from office, cautioning that refusal to comply with the order may attract legal consequences.
He stressed that remaining in the party office after a lawful dissolution is unlawful.
According to him, the caretaker committee is operating within the confines of the law and maintained that no individual is above the party or the law.
He further appealed to party faithful to channel their energies toward rebuilding the PDP in the state rather than criticising the national leadership.
The latest development comes on the heels of a press statement issued on February 24, 2026, by the dissolved SWC, in which the former executives dismissed the legitimacy of the caretaker committee.
The ousted officials argued that the caretaker body lacks constitutional backing and accused it of misleading party members.
In response, Dr. Victor explained that the committee’s mandate is rooted in a ruling of the Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan.
The judgment, delivered on January 30, 2026, by Justice U.N. Agomoh, nullified the PDP convention held in Ibadan on November 15 and 16, 2025, declaring all resolutions reached at the gathering invalid.
He noted that the court recognised the National Caretaker Committee as the sole legitimate authority to administer the party’s affairs and directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to relate with it accordingly.
Dr. Victor maintained that the objective of the caretaker committee is to restore stability within the PDP structure in Taraba State, not to witch-hunt any member. He urged stakeholders to shun divisive tendencies and support moves aimed at fostering unity within the party.
