TAMPAN ban: I stand with Iyabo Ojo, Nkechi Blessing, says Mary Njoku
Nollywood actress and producer, Mary Njoku has stated that she is solidly behind her colleagues, Iyabo Ojo and Nkechi Blessing Sunday after they were suspended by the Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria, TAMPAN.
She made the disclosure in a post she shared on her Instagram page on Monday, June 28th, 2021.
Speaking on behalf of TAMPAN, veteran actor, Prince Jide Kosoko, had on Sunday, June 27, disclosed that the unruly behavior of Nkechi Blessing and her colleague would not be tolerated, threatening to frustrate them out of the industry.
Kosoko said, “As you may be aware, certain unpleasant things have happened lately that have dragged the name of our association, TAMPAN in particular, and the industry in general in the mud, which in totality are against what we stand for as individuals and as a group of professionals.
“We particularly observe the continuous derogatory statements made by Iyabo Ojo against the Association and the industry as a whole.”
“Unfortunately, Nkechi Blessing has also joined in the Ignoble tirades against the Association and by extension, the industry and we say enough is enough!”
Reacting to the suspension, the founder of ROK studios stated that while there are fewer people who come out to speak on rape or child molestation, there is no such thing as an ‘overreaction’.
Njoku further applauded her colleagues for using their time and platforms to speak up against it.
She said; “Where there are allegations of rape or child molestation there is no such thing as an overreaction. Today in Nigeria I don’t believe we are reacting enough. I stand with and want to thank these two strong women who have used their time and platforms to speak up against it. You both are my crush Today and always’.
