Afrobeats star, Tiwa Savage, has stated that having talent is not sufficient to thrive in the music industry, stressing the importance of access and broader opportunities.
The 46-year-old singer made this known while explaining the inspiration behind her Tiwa Savage Music Foundation, an initiative designed to empower up-and-coming African creatives.
“Music changed my life but talent alone isn’t enough especially when access is limited,” Savage said.
Continuing the 46-year-old entertainer, “I want to open people’s eyes to the full scope of what’s possible in music.”
Savage is scheduled to host a grand finale concert on April 26 for more than 100 participants who completed training through her foundation, which was run in collaboration with Berklee College of Music.
The event will be held at the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and the Creative Arts, with Nigerian entertainer Darey Art Alade and Kie Kie billed to host the occasion.
Highlighting her broader vision, Savage noted that her goal goes beyond supporting performers, aiming instead to shape key players across the industry.
“I don’t just want to launch artists; I want to build leaders, producers, executives and owners who will shape the future of the music industry,” she said.
“Our alumni will become film composers, label executives and mentors who reinvest in the next generation. If a young musician from a small neighbourhood can say the foundation changed their life, then we’ve achieved something meaningful,” Savage said.
