Suspected thief beats Kaduna victim to coma, strips her of N412,000 phone
A 32-year-old man, Isah Yusuf, was on Wednesday arraigned in a Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly assaulting a lady and stealing her iPhone XR valued at N325,000.
The defendant, who lives in Malali Abakpa, Kaduna, is facing two charges of unlawful assault and stealing.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Chidi Leo, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on March 20, in Malali area of Kaduna.
Leo said that the defendant had stopped the complainant, Miss Vivian Okoro, on her way home from work and demanded for all valuables on her.
He said that in the process of trying to collect all the items from the complainant, the defendant hit her on her head, which rendered her unconscious and he ran away.
Leo said the defendant ran away with with her iPhone XR valued N325,000, Samsung galaxy valued N87,000 and the sum of N20,000 in cash.
The prosecutor added that the defendant was caught and handed over to the police when a passer-by who witnessed the whole confrontation raised an alarm.
The offences contravened Sections 178 and 287 of the Kaduna State Penal Code, 2017.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, in his ruling, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Emmanuel said that the sureties must be gainfully employed with an evidence of three years’ tax payment to Kaduna State government.
He adjourned the case until May 4 for trial. (NAN)
