Nigeria’s Super Falcons will begin their qualification campaign for the 2028 Olympic Games on Friday when they face Comoros in the first leg of their second-round African qualifying fixture. The Super Falcons vs Comoros match promises to be an exciting encounter as the teams battle for a place in the next round.

According to The PUNCH, the encounter will take place at Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, Ogun State, with interim head coach Augustine Eguavoen looking to secure a winning start.

The match, scheduled for 6 p.m., marks Nigeria’s first step towards securing a place at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

Eguavoen expressed confidence in his team’s preparations, revealing that the players had settled into camp ahead of the two-legged encounter.

“Everyone has settled in well in camp as we have a full house now, and our focus is to present a strong and competitive squad for the two matches,” he said.

Super Falcons face confident Comoros side

Comoros enter the fixture following an impressive qualifying performance against Sudan, whom they defeated 30-0 on aggregate.

The island nation recorded a 17-0 victory in the first leg before securing another emphatic 13-0 win in the return fixture.

Despite their impressive scoring record, Comoros face a tougher challenge against Nigeria, one of Africa’s most successful women’s football teams.

The Super Falcons received a bye into the second round and will hope to establish a comfortable advantage before the return leg on October 13.

Nigeria’s squad includes experienced players such as captain Rasheedat Ajibade, goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, Michelle Alozie, Toni Payne, Christy Ucheibe and Jennifer Echegini.

However, Eguavoen will be without several key players, including Asisat Oshoala, Ashleigh Plumptre and Oluwatosin Demehin, who withdrew from the squad.

Both qualifying matches will take place at Remo Stars Stadium because Comoros does not have a CAF-approved venue for international fixtures.

Friday’s encounter will officially count as Comoros’ home match, despite being played on Nigerian soil.

Nigeria will be aiming to secure a convincing result and strengthen their chances of advancing to the next stage of qualification.

Victory over the two legs would move the Super Falcons closer to securing one of Africa’s two available places at the 2028 Olympic Games.
