At least ten people have been confirmed dead after a suicide bomber attacked a popular food joint in Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State on Friday night.

The tragic incident happened around 10pm, when people had gathered at the food spot to eat and relax. According to eyewitnesses, the area was busy as usual when the bomb suddenly exploded, killing many on the spot and leaving several others with serious injuries.

A resident who spoke to our reporter described the scene as terrifying. “It is a busy joint where people come together, buy food and eat. There are passersby and others. Everything was going normal until a loud sound was heard. It was a devastating moment. Many people died,” the source said.

The Borno State Police Command confirmed the attack in a statement on Saturday. The police spokesperson, ASP Nahum Daso, said over ten persons lost their lives and several others were injured.

“Yesterday, around 22:00 in Konduga, just unfortunately, somebody invaded a gathering with a bomb, killing over 10 persons,” Daso said.

He added that an investigation is already ongoing to determine the full details of the attack. “Investigation is ongoing to ascertain what actually or really happened. The detail is still scanty,” he stated.

Daso also confirmed that the police, along with the military and other security agencies, have deployed their Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) experts to the area to ensure safety and begin cleanup efforts.

Local sources also said the suicide bomber was burnt beyond recognition due to the force of the explosion. Victims who survived the blast were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.
