Suarez, Son in contention for 2020 Puskás award

Former Barcelona striker, Luis Suarez and Tottenham Hotspurs striker, Son Heung-Min, have been nominated for the 2020 FIFA Puskás award.

FIFA released the 11 goals shortlisted for this year’s Puskas Award, which also features Andre-Pierre Gignac as well as players from across both the men’s and women’s game.

The world football governing body is set to announce the three finalists when the voting, which is public, ends on the 9th of December.

Goals in the category were selected from countries such as Ecuador, South Africa, and the Republic of Ireland, as they contend for the 2020 award named after legendary Hungary and Real Madrid goalscorer Ferenc Puskas. [ESPN]

While the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, James Rodriguez and Mohammed Salah have won the prestigious award, Barcelona’s Lionel Messi has failed to win it despite being shortlisted seven times in 11 years since it was established in 2009.

Debrecen star, Daniel Zsori won the 2019 Puskas award with his 93rd-minute match-winning overhead kick for against Ferencvaros.
