A 35-year-old Kenyan man was mauled to death by a pack of stray dogs while walking home in Githunguri village, Kiambu County, in an incident that occurred at around 3 am on August 22, 2026.
Police identified the deceased as George Kimani Gitangia, who was reportedly attacked by several stray dogs as he made his way home.
His cousin is said to have encountered the dogs attacking a person and raised an alarm, prompting members of the public to respond and drive the animals away.
The rescuers later established that the victim was Gitangia after finding him with multiple dog-bite injuries across his body.
He was taken to St Teresa Hospital in Kikuyu for medical attention before doctors referred him to Kenyatta National Hospital in Nairobi.
However, police said Gitangia died from his injuries while he was being transported to the referral hospital.
His remains were taken to the Kenyatta National Hospital mortuary, where they are awaiting further procedures.
Police have opened investigations into the incident as efforts continue to determine the circumstances of the attack and trace the stray dogs involved.
Police described the deceased as a known habitual drunkard and a person of unsound mind.
Meanwhile, police in Kisumu are investigating the killing of a 20-year-old man who died after he was stabbed in the neck during a confrontation over the movement of a funeral procession.
The deceased, identified as Roy Omondi, died at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH) on Saturday, August 22, 2026, while receiving treatment for injuries sustained in the attack.
According to police, the incident happened at around 4 pm on Friday at the JOOTRH mortuary.
Omondi had reportedly been assigned the task of coordinating a procession of mourners who were preparing to transport the body of a relative from the mortuary to Nyamasaria.
Police said the procession was disrupted when a tuk-tuk driver blocked its path.
Omondi allegedly confronted the driver and asked him to park properly to allow the convoy to proceed in an orderly manner.
The confrontation reportedly escalated after the driver allegedly pulled out a knife from a jungle-green sheath and stabbed Omondi on the left side of his neck, causing a deep wound.
The suspect reportedly escaped from the scene while still carrying the knife.
Omondi was rushed to JOOTRH and admitted in serious condition. Despite receiving medical attention, he died early Saturday morning after succumbing to the injuries.
Police officers later visited the scene and processed it as part of their investigations.
A jungle-green knife sheath believed to have been linked to the attack was recovered at the scene and preserved as an exhibit.
Omondi’s remains were taken to the JOOTRH mortuary, where they are awaiting a postmortem examination.
The suspect had not been arrested by the time of reporting, with detectives continuing efforts to establish his whereabouts and determine the circumstances that led to the fatal stabbing.
