Nigerian singer Spyro has sparked reactions online after criticising prominent Nigerian pastors over what he described as their silence on the country’s worsening insecurity.

In a post shared on his Instagram page, the singer questioned why influential spiritual leaders such as David Oyedepo and Enoch Adeboye had not spoken strongly against the growing cases of kidnappings, killings, and fear across the country.

Spyro stated that spiritual leaders have a responsibility to speak up for citizens during difficult times rather than focusing only on sermons, programmes, and celebrations.

The singer’s comments quickly generated mixed reactions online, with some Nigerians agreeing that religious leaders should use their influence and platforms to address national issues and demand change.

Others, however, argued that insecurity remains the responsibility of the government and security agencies, not religious institutions.

The post has continued to fuel debate online over the role of religious leaders in speaking on social and national challenges affecting Nigerians.
