Defending champions, Chelsea, are one leg into the quarter finals of the UEFA Champions League after defeating the French side, Lille 2-0 first leg of their Round of 16 tie.

The Blues who were recently crowned world champions after their Club World Cup triumph took an early lead at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night.

Having scored the decisive goals in the UCL and Club World Cup finals, Kai Havertz reminded the Blues fans why he loves European competitions when he netted the opener (8').

However, it was Captain America, Christian Pulisic, who sealed the 2-0 victory for the Blues in the 63rd minute.

Chelsea head into the second-leg in France in three weeks' time with a two-goal advantage.

Meanwhile, Italian powerhouse, Juventus were held to a 1-1 draw against Villareal at the El Madrigal Stadium.

Debutant, Dušan Vlahović, continued his fine form for the Old Lady since joining in January by scoring the opener after just one minute into the game.

However, Massimiliano Allegri's Turin side were far from their best as they struggled to contain the advances of the Yellow Submarine.

The pressure finally paid off for Unai Emery's side when Dani Parejo found the back of the net with a well-deserved equaliser in the 66th-minute.

However, the hosts failed to find a way beyond the compact defence of Juve who settled for 1-1 ahead of the return leg in Turin on March 16.
