Social media personality Destiny Ezeyim, popularly known as Radiogad, has urged Afrobeats star David Adeleke, better known as Davido, to distance himself from what he described as “yeye people,” warning that the singer’s choice of associates is hurting his public image.
Radiogad made the remarks in a video shared on his Instagram page, where he praised Davido’s achievements but argued that some of the singer’s recent controversies stemmed from the company he keeps.
Describing Davido as one of Nigeria’s greatest music stars, Radiogad said the Grammy-nominated artiste should carry himself with greater dignity and avoid giving critics opportunities to ridicule him.
He said, “You are a good guy, you are a great guy, but you carry yeye people surround yourself. You are a superstar, one of the best in Nigeria. Carry yourself with pride.”
Radiogad also cited a recent public outing involving Davido, criticising the conduct of one of the singer’s associates, whom he said embarrassed the artiste through his actions.
“I don’t know who that boy is, but I don’t know why he would go and sit where he wasn’t supposed to sit until someone asked him to leave. You can do better, bro,” he added.
The social media personality further faulted Davido for regularly engaging with critics on social media, contrasting his approach with that of fellow Afrobeats star Wizkid, whom he said rarely responds to online attacks.
“You see when VeryDarkMan dragged Wizkid? Wizkid didn’t even respond. But when people talk about you, you enter their DMs, threaten them or reply in their comment section. Pick the kind of people you move with. Not everybody,” he stated.
Radiogad advised the singer to channel more attention towards loyal fans and supporters instead of focusing on online detractors, insisting that genuine admirers are the ones who preserve an artiste’s legacy.
“One thing I notice about you is that you ignore people who genuinely support you, but you give attention to those who drag you. It doesn’t work that way. The people who show you love are the ones who will uphold your legacy,” he said.
He concluded by urging Davido to safeguard his reputation by keeping only respectful people within his circle and cutting ties with anyone whose behaviour could tarnish his image.
“I love you as a brother; that’s why I’m telling you the truth. Watch your circle. Anybody who exhibits any form of disrespect, discard that person. You are one of the greatest to ever do it. Carry yourself with pride,” Radiogad said.
