Manny Pacquiao retires from boxing

Philippines boxing icon, Manny Pacquiao, has called time on his legendary boxing career by announcing his retirement.

This comes after the 42-year-old declared he’ll be contesting the Philippines presidential election in 2022.

WuzupNigeria reported that Pacquiao, nicknamed PacMan, accepted the nomination of a rival faction in President Rodrigo Duterte’s ruling PDP-Laban Party on Sunday.

Pacquiao who was an eight-division world champion, last fought in August where he lost to Yordenis Ugas.

“My boxing career? My boxing career is already over,” Pacquiao told actress Toni Gonzaga on her YouTube program Toni Talks.

“It’s done because I’ve been in boxing for a long time and my family says that it is enough.

“I just continued [to box] because I’m passionate about this sport.”

Pacquiao’s career spanned 26 years and 72 fights, winning 62 and losing 10, including a double against undefeated five-division world champion Floyd Mayweather.
