Ronaldo fires Man Utd to classic 3-2 comeback over Atalanta

Cristiano Ronaldo fired Manchester United to a sensational 3-2 comeback win over Atalanta in their Champions League group match at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.

United slumped to a 2-0 deficit in the first half after Mario Pašalić (15′) and Merih Demiral (28′) in the space of 13 minutes to leave Ole Gunnar Solskjaer dumbfounded.

Fred and Marcus Rashford missed two golden opportunities to restore parity but Atalanta took the two-goal lead into the break.

The Red Devils came back firing in the second half and Marcus Rashford pulled one back in the 53rd minute to begin the comeback.

Harry Maguire restored parity in the 75th minute to blow the game wide open, though the momentum had swung their way.

David De Gea who was overly quiet since the break made a double save afterwards to deny Atalanta the lead.

However, Cristiano Ronaldo’s header from a Luke Shaw cross found the back of the net (81′) to complete the sensational comeback.

The goal is Ronaldo’s third in the Champions League after his first against Young Boys and the winner in the comeback win against Villareal.
