Six members of the House of Representatives from Rivers State have defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress.
The lawmakers announced their defection on Tuesday during plenary at the National Assembly, where their letters were read by the Speaker, Abbas Tajudeen.
In the letters, the lawmakers blamed their decision on what they described as an unresolved leadership crisis within the PDP, saying it has affected their ability to function effectively in the party.
They said the move to the APC followed wide consultations and was based on the belief that the ruling party offers a better platform to serve their constituents under the current administration.
According to the letters, the lawmakers said the “persistent internal crisis” in the PDP made it difficult for them to continue as members of the party.
Those who defected are Dumnamene Dekor, representing Khana and Gokana; Solomon Bob, representing Abua, Odual and Ahoada East; Hart Cyril, representing Degema and Bonny; Victor Obuzor, representing Ahoada West and Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni; Blessing Amadi, representing Port Harcourt II; and Felix Nweke, representing Eleme, Oyigbo and Tai.
The defecting lawmakers are known to be loyalists of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
Their defection comes weeks after Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, left the PDP for the APC on December 5, 2025.
It also follows the earlier defection of 15 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, including the Speaker, Martin Amaewhule, who moved to the APC about a week before the governor’s defection.
The wave of defections has continued to deepen the political crisis within the PDP in Rivers State, as more elected officials align with the ruling party ahead of future political contests.
