Six killed, 16 injured in Gombe car crash

An auto crash claimed the lives of six individuals and left 16 others injured at Jekadefari in Gombe, the capital of Gombe State on Friday morning.

The State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Felix Theman, disclosed the details in an interview with reporters in Gombe on Friday.

The accident involved a trailer transporting 27 cows and occurred on Abacha Road, Jekadefari.

Theman explained, “The crash that happened this morning was a lone crash involving a trailer carrying 27 cows; the crash occurred on Abacha Road, Jekadefari.”

The fatal incident was a result of the driver losing control of the vehicle, leading it to plunge into a ditch.

The bodies of the deceased have been transported to a mortuary in Gombe, while the injured victims received medical attention at a nearby hospital.

Theman highlighted that the trailer driver had violated the state government’s ban on heavy-duty vehicles using the road, as the driver chose a route not designated for trailers.

He urged articulated vehicle drivers to exercise caution and adhere to road regulations.

Furthermore, Theman advised residents to keep their children from playing on tarred roads to help reduce the occurrence of accidents.

As part of ongoing investigations, the FRSC sector commander stated that efforts were underway to determine whether the person driving the trailer at the time of the accident was the designated driver of the vehicle.
