A captain with the Singapore Armed Forces has been charged with allegedly possessing at least eight sexually explicit child abuse materials and 20 obscene films.
Dylan Yoon Ker Tern, 26, appeared in court on July 15 and faces charges linked to the alleged offences, which were said to have taken place at a flat in Geylang East on Aug 21, 2025.
Court documents did not specify whether the alleged sexually explicit child abuse materials involved images or videos.
The Ministry of Defence, in a statement to The Straits Times on July 21, said Yoon had been suspended from all duties pending the outcome of the case.
A spokesperson said: “(SAF) holds its service personnel to high standards of discipline and integrity. Service personnel found to have committed offences will be dealt with in accordance with the law.
“As court proceedings are ongoing, (we are) unable to comment further on the case at this juncture.”
Yoon is represented by lawyers Kalidass Murugaiyan and Kanthan Raghavendra from Kalidass Law Corporation.
The matter will return to court on Aug 12.
Under the law, a person convicted of possessing sexually explicit child abuse materials may face up to five years’ imprisonment, a fine, or caning.
Those found guilty of possessing obscene films may be sentenced to up to six months’ imprisonment, fined up to $20,000, or both.
