Sheyi Ariyo receives death threats over role in movie showing masquerade having sex
Film director and singer, Seyi Ariyo, has appealed to Nigerians to help her plead with adherents of traditional worship after receiving death threats over her new film, Asiri Pepe.
In a video she uploaded via her Instagram account on Tuesday, the actress was captured saying traditional worshippers were after her because one of the scenes in her movie portrayed masquerades in a bad light.
According to Ariyo, the scene, which was shared on Facebook by someone she did not know, caught the attention of some traditional adherents who felt slighted by the sight.
She further lamented that some elders and local masquerades across have threatened and further placed a curse that she will die in seven days over her role in the whole drama.
While pleading with Nigerians to help appease the angry parties, Ariyo said that she did not mean to disrespect traditional religion.
“I would never look down on our heritage and rich culture. The movie Asiri Pepe was produced to enlighten people on religious realities beyond the altar and in fact, the impact of looking down on the African religion.
“When Asiri Pepe finally hits the screen you’d see for yourself that it is not a movie that was produced to disregard the African Heritage,” she wrote on her post.
