Shell, partners sign 10-year gas supply deal for Dangote plant
Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited and its joint venture partners, including Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, TotalEnergies EP Nigeria Limited, and Nigerian Agip Oil Company, have reached a final decision to establish a dedicated upstream facility.
This facility aims to supply 100 million standard cubic feet of gas per day to the Dangote Fertiliser and Petrochemical Plant for a decade.
The Managing Director of SPDC, Osagie Okunbor, announced this significant development on Friday in Port Harcourt, describing it as a crucial step in supporting the Nigerian government’s ‘Decade of Gas’ ambition.
“This investment decision is a critical step in pursuing the development of the gas-rich Iseni field, which is part of the Okpokunou Cluster in Oil Mining Lease 35 located in Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa State,” Okunbor stated.
He emphasized the commitment of SPDC and its joint venture partners to Nigeria’s ‘Decade of Gas’ initiative and the domestic gas agenda, highlighting that increasing natural gas delivery to the domestic market is pivotal for accelerated industrialization and economic development in Nigeria.
The Final Investment Decision signifies a positive stride towards constructing the necessary infrastructure for the project. It is expected to generate job opportunities through both direct and indirect employment.
Dangote Fertiliser and Petrochemical Plant, located at the Lekki Free Trade Zone in Lagos State, stands as Africa’s largest granulated urea fertiliser complex, contributing to approximately 65 percent of Nigeria’s domestic fertiliser requirements.
