SEX FOR MARK! OAU student who exposed sacked Prof. Akindele says it’s an unprecedented victory
Miss Monica Osagie the student who was sexually harassed by a professor at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Osun State has expressed her joy over the judgement meted out at the erring professor.
In a statement through her lawyer, Dr. Abiola Akiyode-Afolabi, she lauded the decision of the management towards Professor Richard Akindele of the Department of Management, Accounting.
The lawyer said that Prof. Akindele will serve as a lesson for other predators.
The lawyer also said that there should be a whistleblower policy that can protect informants from being further victimised, the Independent reports.
Mrs. Abiola Akiyode-Afolabi said,
“It’s an unprecedented victory. We hope it will be a lesson for other predators. It’s been a tortuous journey. We do hope lessons are learnt by all.
“For the institutions, it’s important moving forward that mechanisms are in place to checkmate sexual harassment. There should be a whistleblower policy that can protect informants from being further victimised.
“School system should be more accessible and sensitive to students situations. We commend OAU for ensuring that justice is seen as done.
“It should send a warning that sexual harassment is an offence never to be treated with impunity. We commend the bravery of Monica for daring to speak out.”
Recall that WuzupNaija had reported that the management of the university sacked Prof. Akindele after considering the report of the probe panel as upheld by the Senate and Governing Council of the university.
