SEVERAL SHOTS IN THE AIR! Gunmen attack Catholic university in Abuja, abduct Priest

Gunmen on Monday attacked a Catholic institution; Veritas University located in Bwari area of Abuja and abducted a lecturer, who is also the personal assistant to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Michael Kwanashie.

Reports said the gunmen arrived the institution around 12: am and shot several shots into the air before kidnapping the lecturer who is also a Catholic priest from his quarters opposite the school.

It was gathered that the lecturer lived in the same room with the school Chaplain, Fr. Aloysius Achonwa, who reportedly made his way to the roof to escape being abducted.

Speaking on the incident, a student named Mbafan said,

“It was around 12am when we heard gunshots. Everyone froze in fear. It was in the morning we learnt that the attackers had abducted the priest and were demanding N15m ransom.”

When the Vice-Chancellor was contacted for comment, he said he had been advised not to issue any statement for security reasons.

Also when the Federal Capital Territory police spokesman, Anjuguri Manzah, was contacted, he said he will be brief by the Bwari police division.
