The Senate has given its approval to President Bola Tinubu’s N2.1 trillion supplementary budget for the 2023 fiscal year.

Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, announced the approval by striking the gavel after Senators voted in favor during a voice vote following the presentation and debate of the Senate Committee on Appropriations’ report during Thursday’s plenary.

Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations, Adeola Olamilekan, presented the committee’s report, which was subsequently adopted and debated before Senators from various political parties expressed their support during the voice vote.

It’s worth recalling that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration submitted a budget of N2.1 trillion to the National Assembly following approval by the Federal Executive Council on Monday.

Some key components of the supplementary budget include N210 billion allocated for Wage Awards for Civil Servants, N605 billion for National Security and Defense, N300 billion for bridge maintenance, with a special focus on the Eko bridge, N400 billion for cash transfers to vulnerable households, N200 billion for seed and agricultural inputs and equipment, and N18 billion for the Independent National Electoral Commission to conduct off-season elections.
