The National President of Scripture Union Nigeria, Engr. Uwen Cosmas Udoh, and seven other national executives of the organisation have reportedly been abducted by gunmen along the Orlu–Mgbidi Road in Imo State.
According to information shared by popular Evangelist and gospel musician, Tolulope Toluwase, also known as Tolucci on X, the incident occurred around 7:00 a.m. on Sunday, June 14, 2026, as the officials were travelling from Okigwe, where they had just concluded the organisation’s National Campus Fellowship Conference, to Ibadan, the national headquarters of Scripture Union Nigeria.
A letter addressed to the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and signed on behalf of the organisation’s General Director, listed the eight victims as Oluwatomisin Abolarin, Ven. Ernest Onyenabagha, Elijah Chukwudi, Engr. Uwen Cosmas Udoh, Olumide Ayemobola, Adekunle Jegede (driver), Ebenezer Ige and Ola Ige.
The letter stated that the officials were abducted by unknown armed men while travelling along the Orlu–Mgbidi Road and appealed for urgent police intervention to secure their release.
“We therefore respectfully request your immediate intervention for the rescue and release of the abducted persons. The incidence has been reported to the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 9, Umuahia,” the letter read.
The reported abduction has sparked concern within the Christian community, with families, church leaders and mission organisations expressing anxiety over the safety of the victims.
In a public appeal, Evangelist Tolucci urged the Inspector-General of Police to give urgent attention to the matter, describing the incident as one that has thrown the victims’ families and the wider Christian missions community into uncertainty and distress.
As of the time of filing this report, there was no official statement from the Nigeria Police Force regarding the reported abduction or ongoing rescue efforts.
