More than 40 schoolchildren were rescued after a bus veered off the road and slammed into a tree in Sydney’s western suburbs, Australia, on Thursday.
Emergency crews were called to Erskine Park following reports of a serious bus accident involving students, a teacher, and the driver.
Authorities confirmed there were 41 students on board when the incident occurred shortly before 1pm on Erskine Park Road.
Rescue teams worked to free those trapped inside the damaged vehicle after the collision. Despite the severity of the crash, police said none of the students suffered critical injuries.
Five teenagers, aged between 16 and 18, were taken to hospital for additional medical assessment, including one student believed to have sustained fractures.
Paramedics also treated the bus driver at the scene before transporting them to Westmead Hospital for further examination.
The students, who were in Years 11 and 12, were reportedly left shaken by the ordeal but escaped major physical harm. Authorities later ensured all students were safely returned either to their homes or back to school.
Police confirmed the northbound lane of Erskine Park Road remains closed while investigations and cleanup operations continue.
