Scammers hack gov Otu’s phone, seek financial assistance
Scammers have hacked one of the phone numbers belonging to Cross River state governor, Sen. Bassey Otu according to a statement by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Emmanuel Ogbeche on Sunday
The perpetrators are now exploiting the compromised number to solicit financial assistance from unsuspecting members of the public.
Ogbeche urges the public to dismiss any unsolicited messages requesting financial aid purportedly from Governor Bassey Otu.
The statement clarified that the governor’s phone number had been breached by hi-tech criminals in the early hours of Sunday, February 11, 2024.
Ogbeche cautioned the public against falling victim to such deceptive attempts, emphasizing the governor’s disassociation from any messages seeking financial help.
He assured that the hacked number had been secured, and relevant security agencies were actively working to apprehend those responsible for the malicious act.
“There have been apprehension in many quarters over unsolicited messages allegedly from Governor Bassey Otu seeking financial assistance. The public is please advised to disregard any such messages purportedly from the Governor.”
“The hacked number has been secured, while relevant security agencies are working to apprehend those behind this obnoxious act,” Ogbeche stated.
Citizens are urged to exercise caution and remain vigilant to avoid falling prey to scams.
