Sanwo-Olu visits abandoned Lagos-Badagry Expressway project [Photos]
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, over the weekend, visited the abandoned 60-kilometer Lagos-Badagry expressway project.
The administration of former Governor Babatunde Fashola in 2009 initiated the reconstruction and expansion of the expressway from six to 10 lanes.
Recall that during his campaign, Sanwo-Olu had assured that the completion of the expressway would be his priority on assumption of office.
Sanwo-Olu visited the area alongside his Deputy, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, who supervised the project when he was Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure under the Fashola administration.
The Governor assured that the contractor will return to the site this month to continue with the project.
He wrote via his Twitter handle,
“Dear Lagosians, we have identified short, medium and long term projects across the state that require swift attention. Today,
@drobafemihamzat and I inspected the roads on the Badagry expressway corridor and work will begin this month to ease the pain of your everyday commute.“
During an interaction with journalists before the election, Hamzat had noted that the project had two major intermodal transport schemes namely, the Expressway and the Light Rail Mass Transit with their accompanying infrastructure.
“It is a 10-lane superhighway taking off from Eric Moore interchange, traversing westwards through Orile Iganmu, Alaba Oro, Mile 2, Festac, Agboju, Iyana Iba, Okokomaiko, Iyana Era, Ijanikin, Agbara, Ibereko and terminates in Badagry,” he said.
