Harry Kane breaks silence on transfer saga

Tottenham’s interim manager, Ryan Mason, has bared his mind on skipper, Harry Kane’s future as the club is set to miss out on next season’s UEFA Champions League.
Discussion on Kane’s future has been the subject of debate in England amidst the sack of Jose Mourinho and Sunday’s Carabao Cup defeat to Manchester City.

With Tottenham set to miss out on next season’s UCL, Sky Sports on Thursday reported that the Englishman is expected to officially notify Spurs about his intention to quit if they fail to qualify for the Champions League next season.

The report also stated that Kane will not make a final decision on his future until after this summer’s European Championship.

The star hinted at a possible move away from Spurs during a recent interview where he said, “When I look back at the end of my career, these are all the things I’ll go over and take in a little bit more, but the goal right now as a player is to win team trophies.

“As much as this is great, I want to be winning the biggest team prizes. We’re not quite doing that. It’s bittersweet, but it is what it is. I’m proud to win [Premier League Player of the Year], it’s been a good season on the pitch.”

Speaking ahead of their Premier League match against Sheffield United on Sunday, Mason responded to questions concerning Kane’s future at the club.

When asked if Spurs need Champions League football to keep Kane, Maso said, “I don’t think so. Harry Kane loves this football club. That’s been proven over the last seven or eight years. He’s one of the best strikers in the world.

“Everyone knows that, we know that and I’d like to think Harry knows that as well. The most important thing right now, and our attention right now, is this weekend.

“We can’t disrespect any opponent and we can’t be investing our energy into anything else. That’s all I have to say on the matter. Our attention, Harry’s attention, the attention of this whole football club is on this Sunday,” he said.

Meanwhile, with the club potentially set to lose their skipper to bigger clubs like Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City, Spurs have suffered a setback in trying to replace Mourinho.

They were linked to RB Leipzig’s Julian Nagelsmann but the 33-year-old German opted for a five-year deal with defending European champions, Bayern Munich, some days ago.

This is just as Erik ten Hag who was also tipped to take over as the club’s next permanent boss signed one-year contract extension until 2023 with Ajax on Friday.

Meanwhile, Brendan Rodgers has ruled himself out of becoming the permanent successor to Jose Mourinho earlier this week.
