Ronaldo tops 2023 scorers’ chart with 54 goals
Al Nassr striker Cristiano Ronaldo has secured his position as the top scorer of 2023 with his 54th goal, assuring fans that he will “try and do it again” after a stellar performance on Saturday.
The Portuguese forward netted his milestone goal as Al Nassr triumphed 4-1 against Al Taawoun in the Saudi Pro League.
Ronaldo’s impressive goal tally was achieved in 59 fixtures for both club and country, surpassing other top players such as Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane, Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappé, and Manchester City star Erling Haaland. None of these contenders will have additional opportunities to play in 2023.
This marks the fifth time Ronaldo has ended the year as the world’s top scorer, having previously achieved the feat in 2011, 2013, 2014, and 2015 while playing for Real Madrid.
Reflecting on his successful year, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner stated, “It was a good year for me. I scored many goals and helped the team a lot, so I’m really proud. Next year, I’ll try to do it again.”
Earlier this month, Ronaldo celebrated his 1,200th professional match, contributing with a goal and an assist in Al-Nassr’s victory over Al-Riyadh.
The 38-year-old expressed gratitude to those who supported him, emphasizing that he is “not done yet.”
Ronaldo, who achieved his 1,000th senior appearance in February 2020, continues to break records. In June, he became the first men’s player to reach 200 international appearances and holds the record as the top international goal scorer with 128 goals.
His club career also boasts several milestones, including the all-time highest number of appearances in the Champions League and being the first player to score 800 top-level career goals in December 2021, with his tally now exceeding 850 goals.
