Rivers police arrest cops for alleged $3,000 extortion

The Rivers State Police Command has arrested some of its officers implicated in the alleged extortion of 3,000 USDT from a Port Harcourt resident.

The incident came to light when a user on X (formerly known as Twitter) with the handle @harrisonbbi18 posted on Friday evening, stating, “Police officers attached to Rivers State Police Command left Port Harcourt to Aba, Abia State, arrested a man, took him to Rivers State, Bayelsa State, and entered Ughelli, Delta State. After paying 3,000 USD, they moved him back to Port Harcourt and dumped him.”

The Command Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the incident, stating that the police personnel involved had been identified and arrested, with an ongoing investigation.

In a brief statement issued by the police authorities, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, the Police Public Relations Officer for Rivers State Police Command, Port Harcourt, stated, “The police personnel have been identified and arrested while the investigation is in progress. The outcome will be made public as soon as it is concluded.”

However, when pressed for additional details, Iringe-Koko declined to confirm the number of policemen arrested or whether the victim had been contacted.
