Veteran Nollywood actress, Rita Edochie, has publicly criticized Judy Austin, the second wife of actor Yul Edochie, following comments she made about women wearing the traditional Igbo red cap without holding a chieftaincy title.

The controversy began after Judy Austin questioned whether women who have not been conferred with Igbo titles should wear the symbolic red cap. Her remarks quickly attracted attention online and drew a sharp response from Rita Edochie.

Reacting through her Instagram page, Rita challenged Judy’s position on cultural and moral matters, referencing the circumstances surrounding her relationship with Yul Edochie, who was married to May Edochie when Judy entered the picture.

“If a woman can disrespectfully kidnap another woman’s husband in broad daylight and run into the bush, what is a red cap that she cannot wear?” she wrote.

Rita further argued that Judy was not in a position to offer guidance on tradition or values, maintaining that her alleged role in breaking up a marriage undermined any moral lessons she sought to share publicly.

Drawing a distinction between individuals who acknowledge past mistakes and change their ways and those she believes continue in the same behavior, Rita insisted that credibility is essential when offering advice to others.

“You can’t be a thief and expect me to learn morals from you,” she stated pointedly.

The actress also referenced previous instances where Judy had reportedly advised women on preserving their marriages, describing the situation as contradictory in light of the ongoing controversy surrounding the Edochie family.

“The irony is so rich that it deserves its own chieftaincy title,” she quipped.

Rita’s remarks have since generated widespread reactions online, reigniting discussions surrounding the long-running Edochie family dispute and sparking fresh debate across social media platforms.
