Revealing identities of rape victims make them vulnerable- Kannywood actress, Rukayya Umar says
Kannywood actress, Rukayya Umar, has advised that the identities of rape victims be hidden in order to protect them from stigmatisation in the future.
The Kano-born movie star gave the advice during an interview published on Tuesday, News Agency of Nigeria reports.
“I don’t know what the law says about that but it is very disturbing as it makes the victims vulnerable to stigma.
“I saw a three-year-old girl being raped and her mother was interviewed over the issue on a video clip. I am sure the young girl will not like that when she grows up,” she said.
The actress, who is popularly known as Dawayya, also advised fathers to do as much as they can to ensure they protect and provide for their children.
In other news, Police in Sierra leone has arrested a mother and her son after the son allegedly raped his two young cousins living with them which led to the death of one of the girls.
