Retired Police Officers of Nigeria under the contributory pension scheme are protesting in Abuja over several months of unpaid pensions.

They gathered from different state chapters, expressing their struggles due to the National Pension Commission’s failure to pay their entitlements.

On Tuesday, the retirees stormed the National Assembly in Abuja, urging the Federal Government to remove them from the contributory pension scheme.

“The hardships we face are unbearable,” said one of the protesters. “We served our country and now we cannot even get our pensions. It is not fair.”

This is not the first protest by police retirees. In September 2021, retired officers from 27 states also protested at the National Assembly in Abuja, demanding their pension payments. They held placards with messages like, “NPF pension defrauding police retirees, SOS,” “Police officers are dying in penury under the contributory pension scheme,” and “CPS is a death sentence against police!”
