Wife of the President, Oluremi Tinubu, has donated ₦1 billion to victims of recent violent clashes in Plateau State.
The donation, made through the Renewed Hope Initiative, also included food items and clothes. She made this known during a visit to the state on Wednesday alongside her team.
“I come in as a mother whose heart bleeds. I assure you, this is the last time I will have to visit the state for this kind of intervention,” Mrs Tinubu said. “Do not give room to the serpent to enter the edge and assault you. Mend the broken edge. This is enough.”
The First Lady urged the men in the state to do everything possible to keep women and children safe so they could return to their work and farming. She also called on the youth to embrace peace and unity, saying Nigeria is a beautiful country that should not be destroyed by violence.
At the event, Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwuang thanked her for the support and promised that the funds would be used as planned. He said the state would make sure the money goes directly to those affected by the crisis.
“I take full responsibility for the funds you have brought to us. I pledge that we will not hold back. We will disburse it to those for whom it is meant, and no elite will hijack it,” the governor said.
Also present at the gathering were the wife of the Vice President, Hajia Nana Shettima, traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth groups, market traders, and security officials.
