Renowned Nigerian writer, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, has been named the winner of the 2019 Everett M. Rogers Award.

The award, named in honour of the late USC Annenberg professor, Everett M. Rogers, is presented by the Norman Lear Center at the University of Southern California on behalf of the university’s Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism.

The award has been presented every year since 2005 in honour of Rogers whose “Diffusion of Innovation” is the second-most cited book in the social sciences.

Adichie, who is being honoured for “reframing the discourse on race, gender and identity”, will accept the award and speak at the USC Annenberg School in February 2019.

Adichie was described in The Times Literary Supplement as “the most prominent” of a “procession of critically acclaimed young anglophone authors who is succeeding in attracting a new generation of readers to African literature.”
