Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has revealed that the much-anticipated red and blue rail lines, developed in partnership with the Lagos State Government, are expected to become operational in 2024.

The rail project will be included in the 2024-2026 Medium Term Expenditure Framework of Ogun State.

Speaking at the Citizens’ Engagement event on the 2024 Budget and the 2024-2026 Medium Term Expenditure Framework held in Ijebu-Ode on Tuesday, Governor Abiodun represented by Deputy Governor, Noimot Salako-Oyedele emphasized that investments in the red and blue rail lines are a key component of Ogun State’s multimodal transport system.

It aims to improve the movement of people, goods, and services within and beyond the state.

The red rail line will connect to Lagos at the Agbado rail terminus, extending to Marina, while the proposed blue rail line is set to run from Agbara through Okokomaiko-Iganmu to the National Theatre in Lagos. These rail projects are part of Ogun State’s capital projects planned to commence in 2024.

Last year, Ogun and Lagos State Governments signed a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at connecting the red and blue rail lines, with the goal of expanding rail infrastructure into Ogun State as part of the Lagos-Ogun Joint Development Commission initiatives.

The governor also stated, “We will commence the construction of a dry port at Kajola and a logistics hub at Wasinmi in collaboration with the private sector. We launched our e-Mobility and Gas Mobility Projects in June 2023, through which our mass transport systems will be powered by electricity and gas, reducing gas emissions in our State and earning us carbon credit as we join other advanced countries in going green.”
