Rainstorm destroys properties in Ondo
Properties worth millions of naira were destroyed by rainstorm in some parts of Akure, the Ondo State capital, on Friday evening.
It was gathered that the rainstorm wreaked havoc in some areas such as Igoba, Onigaari, Adebowale and Aule among others.
Some houses, electric poles, billboards were destroyed by the rainstorm the leaving the communities in blackout.
It was however learnt that no life was lost in the incident but
roofs of the affected houses were blown off while some billboards and electric poles were fallen down.
To this end, some of the victims have appealed to the state government, the National Emergency Management Agency and other intervention agency to come to their aids.
One of the victims, Mr Ola Longe said his house was seriously affected, calling on the government for assistance
He said: “We need assistance because of the havoc caused by the rain. We are appealing to the state and the federal government to come to our aids.
“When the rain started, the heavy storm started blowing off everywhere. But we thank God that life was not lost in the incident.”
In the same vein, a community leader, Mr Ayeni Abayomi said no fewer than 80 houses were affected in his community, calling for the government’s assistance.
“What happened yesterday was beyond human knowledge and imagination. Most of our properties have been destroyed. This is beyond our capacity but we thank God no live was lost but the damage is too much.”
