Undergraduates at various tertiary institutions in the country must not be involved in any form of unholy alliances with their lecturers for the sake of gaining undue favours from them.

The incumbent Queen Moremi Ajasoro (QMA), Miss Adedamola Toluhi, who gave the advice said such would demean such students’ integrity.

Toluhi, a 300-level student of English at the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile Ife, Osun, gave the advice during a courtesy visit to the Lagos office of the  News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

Toluhi added that students that indulged in unholy alliances with their lecturers would not be able to defend their certificates after they would have completed their programmes.

She advised them to remain focused on their academics and should not be involved in bribing lecturers to get marks.

She said this act would only demean them and render then lazy to face future challenges at workplaces.

“I call on the undergraduates to stay focused on their studies and neglect every form of peer pressure influence.

“Having illegal affairs with lecturers will not have positive effects on your lives.

“It will make you continue to be a prey to such lecturers, lazy and will render you empty academically,” she said.

A former lecturer in the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Prof. Richard Iyiola Akindele, who was dragged to court for demanding sex to pass one of his students, Monica Osagie, was sentenced to two years in prison in December 2018.

Toluhi also appealed to the Federal Government to intensify efforts on job creation in order to curb the crime rate in the country.

She said that Nigerian youths had become so frustrated and depressed due to lack of jobs in the country.

According to her, this has resulted in the youth embracing all manner of illegal activities like internet fraud, rituals, stealing and some other atrocities.

She said that the Federal Government should create more employment opportunities in agriculture, tourism, information communication technology and other aspects of the economy.

“Nigerian youths are embracing all forms of illegal acts because of unemployment in the country.

“When jobs are available, the youth will be better engaged and think less of indulging in different forms of atrocious acts.

“Government must wade in, into this problem by creating more jobs for the youth,” she said.
