Prince William withdraws from BAFTA over Prince Philip’s death
Following the death of the Prince Philip, his grandson Prince William has withdrawn from the weekend’s British Academy Film and Television Arts Awards, a statement from the organisers said on Saturday.
People reports that the Duke of Edinburgh, who died at the age of 99 on Friday, was the first President of the BAFTAs while William has been President of the BAFTAs since 2010.
“In light of The Duke of Edinburgh’s passing, The Duke of Cambridge will no longer be part of BAFTA programming this weekend,” BAFTAs said in the statement.
“Our thoughts are with the Royal Family, to whom we offer our deepest sympathy at this time.”
William was due to be included in a pre-recorded interview on Saturday about filming during the COVID lockdown and was also set to deliver a virtual speech on Sunday.
