A claim that the wife of late Nollywood actor Alex Ekubo may be pregnant has generated widespread reactions online following his burial in Arochukwu, Abia State.

According to The Punch, the comment was made when the late actor’s remains were taken to the palace of the Eze Aro of Arochukwu during funeral rites on Thursday.

The remark came from a representative of the traditional ruler, who prayed that Ekubo’s lineage would continue despite his passing.

During his address, the representative disclosed that there were reports suggesting the actor’s wife was expecting a child and expressed hope that the unborn child would surpass the achievements of his father.

The video quickly went viral on social media, attracting mixed reactions from fans and members of the public.

While some expressed excitement over the possibility, describing it as a lasting legacy of the late actor, others questioned the decision to publicly discuss such personal information during the burial ceremony.

Some social media users argued that the matter should have remained private out of respect for the family.

Amid the emotional ceremony, the actor’s widow, Anwuli Ekubo, was seen observing proceedings quietly. Dressed in white and wearing sunglasses and a face mask, she appeared visibly emotional throughout the event.

Speaking at the funeral, Abia State Governor Alex Otti, represented by his Chief of Staff, Caleb Ajagba, described Ekubo’s death as a major loss to Abia State and the Nigerian entertainment industry.

“The news of Alex’s passing came as a profound shock. Today, we mourn not merely an actor, brother and friend, but a creative force, a cultural ambassador and a proud son of Arochukwu whose talent brought honour to Abia State and Nigeria,” he said.

Also delivering a message at the service, the Lead Pastor of Streams of Joy International, Umuahia, Eno Eze, urged mourners to focus on living impactful lives and building lasting legacies.

Meanwhile, actress and filmmaker Omoni Oboli announced that proceeds from The First Lady, the first movie she produced featuring the late actor, would be donated to his family.

The announcement drew mixed reactions, with some praising the gesture while others felt it should have been made after the burial ceremonies.

Alex Ekubo died on May 11, 2026, and was laid to rest after a series of funeral events held in Lagos and his hometown of Arochukwu.
