Leaked Audio: Adamawa APC suspends chairman who wished Buhari COVID-19 death
The Adamawa State Chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC) says it has suspended the embattled Yola South Local Government Caretaker Chairman of the party, Alhaji Suleiman Adamu, for allegedly attacking the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd) on social media.
In viral audio leaked via social media on Monday, a voice widely recognised as that of Suleiman was heard wishing that coronavirus had inflicted and killed Buhari.
Daily Post reported that the chairman came under intense heat over the leaked audio, a development that he vehemently denied.
Adamu vowed that he wasn’t behind the offensive voice in the audio.
As the crisis dragged on, the state APC leadership released a statement on Tuesday afternoon announcing his suspension to enable the party to investigate the said social media attack.
The APC statement, signed by the state Caretaker Publicity Secretary, Hon Mohammed Abdullahi, said the party had noted the audio clip, following which it called an emergency state working committee (SWC) meeting where the clip was replayed and deliberated upon.
“At the end, it was observed that some of the words in the audio clip were most unfortunate and required further investigation.
“Consequently, a seven-man disciplinary committee has been set up by the state working committee to investigate the issues in the audio clip and to make appropriate recommendations for action,” the statement said.
Those in the committee are Alhaji Saidu Maitalata Naira (chairman) and Barr Shagnah Maboyofe, secretary.
Members of the committee are Hon Mohammed Raji, Hon Abdullahi Wali, Hon Shadrack Obed, Alhaji Babanguda Talase, and Mr Haruna Jonah.
The party said it had to suspend the Yola South APC caretaker chairman to ensure an unhindered investigation.
