The Ondo State Police Command has announced a restriction of movement on Saturday, January 20, 2025, during the local government elections.

This restriction will be in effect from 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., according to a statement issued by the police spokesperson, CSP Funmilayo Odunlami, on Thursday.

Commissioner of Police Wilfred Afolabi explained that the restriction is for security purposes and aims to ensure a peaceful election process. He advised commuters traveling through Ondo State to adjust their plans accordingly.

“Commuters who may have a reason to use the state as a passage are pre-informed of the restrictions to help adjust their plans ahead of the D-day,” the statement read.

The restriction will not apply to security personnel, medics, health workers, firefighters, and other essential service providers, who will be allowed free movement to carry out their duties. The police added that emergencies would also be considered for movement during the restricted period.

The commissioner urged eligible voters to conduct themselves peacefully and follow the rules guiding the electoral process. “We call on all voters to abide by the regulations as they carry out their civic duties,” he said.

He assured the public that adequate security measures are in place to ensure the smooth movement of people and election materials during the polls.
