Police rescue Zamfara monarch, son, cleric, 10 others
The Zamfara State Police Command has rescued the District Head of Wuya town in Anka local government area of Zamfara state, Alhaji Umaru Usman who was kidnapped by bandits last week.
Also rescued were, his son, Manir Umar, the chief imam of the town, Malam Murtala Wuya and 10 other persons.
In a statement, the Police public relations officer SP Mohammed Shehu said the kidnapped victims were rescued in collaboration with some repentant bandits following an intensive engagement.
Shehu further said that all the rescued persons were in good health condition, explaining that no ransom was paid for their release.
Governor Bello Matawalle who expressed happiness over the release of the victims thanked the Police and the security agencies as well as the repentant bandits for this laudable effort.
The Governor assured that his government would continue to sustain the ongoing peace process in the state, and further vowed to take decisive action against the recalcitrant bandits that refused to accept the peace pact.
He, however, warned Yamsakai to desist from the extrajudicial massacre of Fulani, otherwise, they would face the full wrath of the law.
It would be recalled that the District head of Wuya town, Alhaji Umaru Usman, his son, Manir Umar and the Chief Imam of the town, Malam Murtala Wuya were kidnapped by bandits when they were observing afternoon prayer last Thursday.
They were kidnapped at gunpoint and taken to the bush by bandits who demanded the sum of N100 million.
