President and Chief Executive Officer of Dangote Industries Limited, Aliko Dangote, has said the Dangote Petroleum Refinery’s Initial Public Offering will be structured to give ordinary Nigerians an opportunity to become part-owners of the multibillion-dollar facility.
According to Vanguard, Dangote said the forthcoming public offer is being simplified to make participation easier for investors across different income groups. In addition, anyone who has a Bank Verification Number is expected to be able to subscribe.
Dangote said the initiative goes beyond raising money for the refinery. He explained that the wider objective is to allow more Nigerians to participate in wealth creation. Thus, people can benefit from the growth of one of Africa’s biggest industrial projects.
“This refinery belongs to Nigerians and Africans. It was built to transform our economy, create prosperity and secure our energy future. We want the people to share in that success,” he said.
IPO targets ordinary Nigerians
Dangote said technology-driven subscription channels would be deployed to remove unnecessary bureaucracy. This will make it easier for both experienced investors and people buying shares for the first time.
“That is why we are making the IPO process simple, transparent and accessible. Anyone with a Bank Verification Number (BVN) will be able to invest and become a co-owner of this world-class refinery,” he said.
The billionaire businessman said the offer was deliberately designed to accommodate Nigerians from different economic backgrounds. This includes civil servants, artisans, traders, professionals, young entrepreneurs and cooperative societies.
Pension contributors and Nigerians living abroad are also expected to have opportunities to participate in the offer.
Dangote pushes broader wealth ownership
Dangote said one of the major goals of the IPO is to prevent ownership of valuable businesses from remaining concentrated among a small group of wealthy investors.
“Historically, wealth has often been concentrated in the hands of a few. Our objective is different,” he said.
He added that the refinery wants millions of Nigerians to benefit directly from the value it is creating. Otherwise, they would merely observe its growth from outside.
“This IPO represents a unique opportunity for people to own part of an enterprise that is already transforming Africa’s refining industry,” Dangote said.
The Dangote Refinery IPO is also expected to deepen participation in Nigeria’s capital market. It will also give investors an opportunity to benefit from the refinery’s future growth.
Dangote said broader ownership could ultimately support more inclusive economic growth. It could allow Nigerians from different backgrounds to build long-term wealth through their investment in the refinery.
