The Kano State Police Command has recovered two stolen vehicles in separate intelligence-driven operations carried out in Tarauni and Kumbotso Local Government Areas.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa.

According to the statement, the recoveries align with ongoing directives from the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, emphasizing intelligence-led policing and improved visibility patrols.

“These successes underscore the renewed commitment of the command to proactive crime prevention, management and control through enhanced visibility policing, intelligence gathering and community partnership,” the statement said.

In the first incident, police reported that a Toyota Corolla LE, 2004 model, dark ash in colour, bearing registration number DRA 735AA, was stolen on April 22, 2026, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Mambolo Street, Zone 2, Wuse, Abuja.

Acting on credible intelligence, operatives from the command’s Special Intervention Squad carried out an operation that led to the recovery of the vehicle at Darmarawa Layout, Naibawa, in Tarauni Local Government Area of Kano State.

“Through coordinated visibility policing and intelligence gathering, the vehicle was recovered at Darmarawa Layout, Naibawa, Tarauni LGA, Kano,” the statement added.

Preliminary investigations indicated that the vehicle had been parked at the location by a suspected notorious car thief who is currently at large.

“Efforts are in top gear to apprehend the fleeing suspect,” the command stated.

In a separate case, police said an unregistered foreign-used Kia Optima owned by Musbahu Baba Muhammad of Railway Quarters was stolen on April 24, 2026.

The vehicle was reportedly taken from Khalifa Isyaka Rabiu Friday Mosque, Gadon Kaya, along BUK Road.

Following the report, detectives from the Sharada Police Division initiated an investigation and deployed patrol strategies to track the vehicle.

The statement noted that the car was later recovered around 5:30 a.m. on April 25, 2026, at Ja’en Quarters, with support from members of the Zone 5 Ja’en Vigilante Group.

“The stolen vehicle was recovered at about 0530hrs on 25th April 2026 at Ja’en Quarters. The vehicle is now in safe custody,” the statement said.

Police said efforts are ongoing to apprehend those responsible for the theft.

The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended officers of the Special Intervention Squad and the Sharada Division for their prompt response and professionalism.

He also acknowledged the contributions of the vigilante group and residents who provided useful information that aided the operations.

“This achievement further validates the effectiveness of community policing and visibility policing strategies in crime-fighting,” the commissioner said.

Bakori assured residents of the command’s continued commitment to safeguarding lives and property, while urging the public to report suspicious movements and activities to security agencies.
