The Anambra State Police Command has arrested at least 12 people in connection with the killing of comedian and town crier Isaac Nwosu. He was popularly known as Aiza Nwosu.

According to The PUNCH, police spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga disclosed that the suspects were arrested. Meanwhile, investigators also probe other suspected cult-related killings in Awka.

“The Command has so far arrested no fewer than 12 persons in connection with the killing of the late Isaac Nwosu, popularly known as ‘Aiza Nwosu’, as well as other cult-related killings in Awka,” Ikenga said.

Police said the investigation remains ongoing while efforts continue to locate a principal suspect who remains at large.

Police deny N600,000 allegation

The command also rejected allegations that officers collected N600,000 before releasing Nwosu Chikamso Jennifer. She was arrested as part of the investigation.

A civil society organisation had raised concerns about Jennifer’s arrest and alleged that money was paid for her release.

Police denied demanding or receiving any payment. They said her detention was connected to information investigators considered relevant to the murder probe.

Ikenga said Jennifer was subsequently released after offering to assist police in locating the suspect.

Investigation continues

The police spokesperson said officers would continue pursuing the investigation within the law. He called on anyone alleging corruption or extortion to provide verifiable evidence.

Authorities are still searching for the principal suspect as investigators work to establish the circumstances surrounding Nwosu’s killing.

The arrests mark a significant development in the case following the comedian’s death in Awka.
